The Popular Education Project to Free the Cuban 5 was formed in January 2005 with the goal of
securing the freedom of five Cuban Political Prisoners currently imprisoned in U.S. jails, collectively known as the Cuban
5; through lobbying efforts, letter writing campaigns, educational activities, and mass mobilizations, the Project works to
develop support for the Cuban 5 among students, workers, people of faith, and especially communities of color.
The Cuban 5 are among over 100 political prisoners who are presently incarcerated for their
political beliefs and actions – victims of government repression against political activists and those opposing the
U.S. policy of economic blockade and political/military aggression against the people of Cuba.
The Project believes that the case of the Cuban 5 is important to all people because of the
serious constitutional violations that took place in their trial, the abuse they were subjected to by federal officials, and
the denial of their basic rights as prisoners. If these abuses can be committed against innocent men, then it could happen
to anyone.
We consider ourselves part of the broader international movement to free these 5 brothers and
hope that through our work and activities you will learn about their case and get involved.
The Popular Education Project to Free the Cuban 5 needs energetic, enthusiastic, and committed
people to help us strengthen the work to free the Cuban 5. The power of the masses has helped free many political prisoners;
all we have to do is get out into the community and do the work. If you are interested in working with us then email us at: freethecuban5@gmail.com or call our Free the Cuban 5 Hotline 718-601-4751.
Also, help us pressure U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez to allow the Cuban 5 to see their
family. See our National Visa Campaign page
The Popular Education Project to Free the Cuban 5 needs your financial support. It is through
your donations that we can educate, organize and mobilize for the Cuban 5. Send your tax deductible donation, check or money
